Bat’s Big Game

The book Bat’s Big Game is Retold by Margaret Read MacDonald and illustrated by Eugenia Nobati is a great book for 5-7-year-old kids. In this story, there were animals and the birds who wanted to start a soccer game so they did. Then Bat came along and wanted to join so he joined the animal’s team. Then since the animals were losing he snuck off and asked if he could be on the bird’s team. The birds let him join. So then he played on the animal’s team again and then they noticed that he was switching teams and he got in trouble and wasn’t allowed to play. The moral of the story is that no matter if your team is losing you always stick together.

I Used To Be A Fish

In the story “I Used To Be A Fish” written and illustrated by Tom Sullivan is a great book for 5-7 year old kids. In the story there was a fish that evolved into a fish with legs. Then he evolved into a frog/lizard. After that he evolved in to a lizard. But one day there was a big boom and things got crazy. After it calmed down the lizard started to grow larger and it evolved into a monkey. After a while the monkey changed into a Sasquatch. But then the Sasquatch lost its fur and bananas weren’t cutting it anymore for a food source. So the cave man went hunting for meat. Then the cave man started to draw his adventures on the cave walls. Then the cave man changed into a human and built a house. The human kept building and never stoped. Then he wished to fly but until then he settled for his house. But the funny thing is he used to be a fish.

Some things i like about the story are i liked that the book was about evolution and i really enjoyed looking at all of the beautiful illustrations.

In conclusion, this is a great story for 5-7 year old kids thanks to the amazing author and illustrator Tom Sullivan.

Enemy Pie

The book Enemy Pie by Derek Munson and illustrated by Tara Calahan King is a great book for middle aged students. This story is about a boy who thought it was the perfect summer until Jeremy Ross moved into the house down the street and Jeremy Ross became enemy number one. Luckily, his dad had a way to get rid of enemies, called enemy pie. But to make the enemy pie work he had to spend a whole day with Jeremy Ross. In the end the boy actually didn’t mind Jeremy Ross so they ate the enemy pie together and were friends ever since. I liked this story because it teaches kids to never think bad of someone without trying to be their friend.

Overall the illustrator and the author have created a great book for middle aged students.

The Sweetest Fig

The book The Sweetest Fig by Chris Van Allsburg and illustrated by Chris Van Allsburg written for middle age children is about a dentist named M.Bibot and his dog named Marcel. M.Bibot is the main character and in this story one day an old lady came into M.Bibot dentist office and after M.bibot pulled out the old ladys tooth she didn’t pay him in euros she payed him in figs, magical figs and M.Biboy demanded she get out. M.Bibot didn’t believe the figs were magical so one day he took a bite out of one of the figs and he had a dream he was walking in the town in his underwear and that morning it came true. The next day he he was getting ready to eat the second fig and he kept repeating “I will be the richest man in the world.” “I will be the richest man in the world.” “I will be the richest man in the world.” then when he wasn’t looking his dog Marcel jumped on the table and ate the fig. M.Bibot was so angry so he chased after Marcel until Marcel scurried under M.Bibot’s bed and M.Bibot couldn’t get Marcel so M.Bibot layed in bed and fell asleep. The next day M.Bobit woke up and he was sleeping under the bed and some called “ Marcel Marcel.” and then he saw himself trying to grab him out for under the bed.

In My opinion this story was a good story for younger kids because it shows you how to not treat a dog and never get mad because of accidents.

Overall this story is a great book for younger kids and the lesson of this story is to never get too mad at accidents.

Stolen Words

This story is called Stolen Words written by Melanie Florence and illustrated by Gabrielle Grimard. The book started with men and women dressed in black had taken her grandpa and his words and his family’s laughter. This story is about residential schools and how residential schools took the first nations kids and their language and made them speak english instead of their cultural language. My own thoughts and feelings about this story is that I feel bad for the grandpa and his granddaughter because when the granddaughter found a book of the grandpas language he was happy. The residential schools have taken their language away from the first nations and now the new generation of kids may not speak their cultural language. This book was a great story to show how residential schools have changed the first nations cultural.

Hey, Little Ant

The book Hey, Little Ant by Phillip and Hannah Hoose and illustrated by Debbi Tilley is a picture book for age 5-7 students. The book was about a boy who wanted to squish an ant but the ant told him reasons not to so he thought about it and he didn’t. I liked the story because you shouldn’t hurt any animal because they didn’t do anything to you. I also like that the main character the ant could talk. Overall, I think this was a good picture book and a great lesson to teach kids. Debbi Tilley the illustrator made a great book for younger kids to read and enjoy.
